The idea of religion has become changed by society, the materialistic veiws of our world has altered the behaviors of the churches, we sell ourselves and the image we believe to be the right one.
Jesus came, to give life, to give redemption, to teach, to love, to die on the cross and allow us to have a personal relationship with God.
I can't answer your question.
In my veiws, "christianity" has become an idea, that each and everyone of us has a veiw of.
Modern christianity can simply be religion.

The definition of christianity is a system of beliefs and practices based on the teachings of christ.
to establish this, in my opinion is in fact at least part of why Jesus came.

I play and study music, I identify with music so I supose I am a Musician. Do the builders of instruments do so so that they can establish music or does music create music simply by what it is. Jesus is all consuming his words are life and his gift of salvation is true. I study his teachings I listen for his voice I emerse myself in him, I worship him and I know many many people who feel and do the same. Did Jesus come so that Geoff Bullock could write songs about him? Or is Geoff helpless but to reflect on him through music? Christ is within me christ-in, being a christian is a direct result of meeting him, so therefore Jesus did not need to think about establishing christianity or not establishing christianity, christianity is an unavoidable result of Jesus being Jesus.
